Best Wishes to Iranian Protesters

I would like to express my support and best wishes to all of the Iranian protesters risking their lives to effect political change. Please be courageous and try to stay safe.

I have been absolutely riveted by the information wave coming out of Iran in social media, especially Twitter. Some of the tweets are truly powerful, such as one I saw that told students to get out of certain dorms and which routes were safe to take. Wow!

Even amid the great calamity that is happening in Iran, American politicians choose to bicker over whether President Obama should take a stronger stance in support of the protesters. I think it’s painfully obvious that if he did so it would invigorate the ruling establishment in Iran to violently crack down on the “American supported revolution.” The protesters are already walking a very fine line in an attempt to prevent heavy handed reprisal.

I must admit that I’m surprised that some of the protesters express an interest in American involvement. There seems to be this unfair double standard on America. We should step in and direct some international conflagrations, but not others? Who’s to decide which is right and which is wrong? Either way it seems like we’ll either take abuse from the international community, or from half our populace here at home, which seems very much like a lose-lose situation.

Politics aside, again I send my encouragement to the protesters. Stay strong!

Life is crazy..

So my life is crazy right now. I’m halfway through my history class, and the transition back to school after over a year off hasn’t been all that bad – other than having zero free time of course. In addition to that I’ve been trying to plug along on a freelance programming project that I decided to take on with this crazy month looming. In the bits of free time I can scrounge I’m working on putting together a Warhammer 40,ooo campaign.

On top of all that, we’ve had a flurry of house guests. First my brother-in-law for 3 weeks, then a friend of my sister-in-law for a week immediately following that. In the middle of next month we’ll have my mother-in-law and three kids out for a week.

The new house has been great, but my drainage pipe for my sump pump / gutters appears to be collapsed or blocked, causing water to pool around the house. Since all it does is rain in St. Louis, this has become something of a problem! I need to find the time to address it soon. I’m planning to try a plumbing snake first to see if it’s just plugged, but I may end up having to dig it up. Oye!

With everything going on, I’ve had no time for charity work unfortunately. I feel really bad about that, but such is life I suppose.

On another note, in just a few weeks we should find out if it’s a boy or a girl. I’m excited! Though that means probably more painting in the near future..it never ends does it?

Irrelevant

The Cheney clan needs to shut the hell up! I’m so tired of hearing their petulant ramblings about how Obama is ruining the country after all the Bush administration did to tear our nation apart. Now Dick Cheney’s daughter is joining the circus and criticizing Obama. Why is she choosing now to come out of the woodwork? I didn’t even know he had offspring and was probably subconsciously hoping he didn’t. Apparently that hope was valid.

Dick Cheney and his ilk need to realize that they are beyond irrelevant now. Cheney himself admitted that ancient party members like him with old ideas should pass they reigns to younger players. He needs to take his own advice and retire in silence!

Epic Failure

The creation of this blog is the due to the realization of my epic failure in targeted niche content blogging. Other blogging attempts of mine are Helping St. Louis and The Pit of Controversy. I tried to make these blogs work because I like charity work and volunteering and I like debate, but ultimately I found the themes too restrictive. I found I need a place to just talk about whatever I want. That said, I would not be surprised if charitable or debate themed posts show up here. I tried to make Twitter work for my random thoughts needs, but I also found that too restrictive (though I still post there regularly – you can follow Schevus).

So, since this is a personal blog, I’ll share a little about me. I am a 24 year old software developer and I live in the St. Louis area.
